| | | Captain/Pro Match
This week, was the first match of the Captain and Pro Series with the challengers being Steve Durham and Peter Graham. The format for these matches is fourball betterball played from the White plates and played until the very last hole. In the wind and the rain, the Captain and I were able to navigate the first hole with Barrie making a 4 nett 3 to take us 1up against Steve’s 4. Starting strong and feeling confident, we both stood on the 2nd tee staring down the flag... this was shortly followed by the best shank I have hit this year and resulted in a loss of hole to Pete’s par (yes, we all do it occasionally). |
The game remained close throughout until the Captain and Pro were lucky enough to put together a run of pars and a birdie at 7 to take a dominating lead into the back 9. The back 9 continued to swing in our favour as the rain came down and the clubs became harder to hold onto, Barrie played one of the shots of the day from the 13th bunker to a back pin position to secure another hole victory guaranteeing at least a halve for the match. With birdies following at 15 and 17, the Captain and I were able to secure our first victory of a very tough road ahead! The next challengers are Trevor Smith and Vice-Captain Howard Hoskins. |

Changes pay off for Bryson Bryson DeChambeau’s beefed-up new look has had chins wagging since the restart of the PGA Tour. On Sunday, the added muscle mass delivered its first win. A seven-under final round brought his total to -23 for the week and gave ‘The Mad Scientist’ a three-stroke victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The 26-year-old had decided it was time for a change at the back-end of 2019 and put his famed thinking cap (a Ben Hogan-style flat-cap) on to find a solution. The answer, he decided, was to gain muscle in order to drive further. After finishing T3-T6-T8 in the first three events, this week DeChambeau was finally able to sink the critical putts. His driving distance (now No. 1 on the PGA Tour) has proven effective, but this week went to show that you can’t win without good putting. If you're thinking of changing your approach to the game or want some help to take your game to the next level, we can help! Simply, call us on 013030233745 or send us a message below. |
