New technology has landed...
Another busy week in the shop with many of you taking advantage of lessons, custom fit sessions and especially our Cobra Fitting Day on tuesday. Another successful event held here at the club. thank you again goes to those that participated in the day to make it such a sucess. We hope you enjoyed your experience and hope your new clubs will do the trick. |
As many of you may have also noticed this week, we have taken delivery of the new TaylorMade Sim range. These are available as demo clubs in the shop so feel free to pop in and take for a spin on the course. Let us know your thoughts and we'll be happy to assist.
TaylorMade SIM:
Each SIM/SIM Max/SIM Max D driver head has been individually calibrated and injected to reach the threshold of the maximum legal limit of ball speed. The revolutionary face curvature reduces sidespin and delivers straighter shots on off-center strikes. |
|
Why three heads I hear you ask... SIM = Penetrating ball flight, low spin with maximum adjustability
SIM Max = Maximum forgiveness and higher trajectory SIM Max D = Draw-bias design with an easy to hit, high launch | |
Select your preference with progressive face height. Drivers in the SIM family have progressively larger face sizes, with SIM Max D having the largest.
This allows golfers of all abilities to maximize playability and forgiveness.

After something new? Lots of you are playing more regular golf now than you ever have done before. This is great and we're certainly not complaining! However, with all that golf comes plenty of miles walking down the fairways (and sometimes rough). So, with £20 OFF selected shoes in the pro shop, now is the perfect time to upgrade your shoes to make sure you have all the comfort and support you need. |

| Captain/Pro Challenges
This week's challengers were Trevor Smith and Vice Captain Howard Hoskins. With a new delivery of the Taylormade SIM Woods, I decided to test out the new technology and see how the club performs. Howard and Trevor both played the first hole great hitting the fairway and then hitting the green, Trevor then stepped up to his 30 foot putt and rolled it straight into the middle for a birdie 3. With the challenge marker set, the Captain and I followed with birdies at 2, 3 and 4 to take the game back to all square. By this point I had hit the new SIM driver 3 times and hadn’t been within 40 yards of a fairway... definitely user error! With the swings now loose and the birdies in full flow, we then halved 6 and 7. With the first fairway hit on the 8th by myself I was able to birdie 8 and 9 to take for the good guys to take a 1UP lead going into the back 9. 10 was halved in 4 and the 11th hole was won by (lucky Barrie) with what he called a tactical punch shot down the left, using the bushes to slow the ball and move towards the green.. 2 putts later and a nett 2 we were 2UP in the game. Howard struck a great drive on 12 to put himself in the middle of the fairway and once on the green the captain and I were lucky to escape with a half in par. The 13th saw birdies and pars on 14 for another half. The 15th tee poses quite a threat from the white plate back in the trees, on back to back weeks now, the captain has been on great form securing a 5 nett 4 to win the hole and take the match 3UP with 3 to play and helping get us over the line to secure the win. The next challengers are Dave Ward and Alan Dickson (aka “the invincible’s”)... |

A fantastic performance Certain rounds make us mere mortals say “Wow!”. Collin Morikawa had one of those rounds on Sunday. Justin Thomas really should have won the tournament - and when you sink a glorious putt from 50-plus feet for birdie in a playoff it’d be understandable to celebrate as you have - but, as I said, Morikawa had a “Wow!” round. This was Morikawa's second PGA Tour victory. That might not sound too impressive as a standalone statement, but it's one more than the number of cuts he's missed so far in his youthful career. Just let that sink in for a minute.
It goes to show how consistent the top players are. So, rather than trying to hit the ball further, maybe we should all be striving for more consistency in our game? Share your thoughts with us using the button below.
